The best season to elope in Switzerland

Switzerland is beautiful every day.

But maybe not every day will fit your vision. That’s why we’ve put together the pros and cons of every season so that you can decide which time of year is best for what you enjoy and what you have envisioned for your elopement. And if you’re unsure, we’re here to help recommend the perfect month for your elopement.

Every season has its own magic. Which one is your favorite?

SPRING

MARCH-MAY
Flowers start to bloom, the temperatures are mild and Switzerland is starting to get ready for summer: Spring is a great time for an elopement if you’re a lover of both green meadows and snowy banks. Depending on your preferred venue, you might just get both at the same place.

Pros

  • Beautiful alpine flowers

  • mild temperatures

  • Popular locations will not be too crowded yet and more venues might be available

Cons

  • Weather instability: Depending on the location of your preferred elopement there might still be snow in the mountains

  • in-between-season: Not all cable cars might be running yet and hence not all locations can be accessed as easily as during summer and winter

SUMMER

JUNE-AUGUST
A summer elopement is what most couples opt for. The weather is most stable and in the mountains, depending on the elevation, temperatures are always mild. There’s tons of things to explore while staying in Switzerland and you’ll definitely leave with a bag full of unforgettable experiences.

Pros

  • Best weather for alpine elopements

  • Dips in the lake and outdoor experiences possible

Cons

  • Locations may be more crowded (especially popular ones like Lake Oeschinen or Lake Cauma)

  • less availability for popular locations, especially on weekends

  • less flexibility by vendors, especially on weekends

FALL

SEPTEMBER-NOVEBER
You love colorful foliage, cooler evenings and mystical fog banks? Then an elopement during the fall months might be for you. While September can still be quite warm, you’ll be closer to winter in November. Make sure to let us know your preferences and we’ll gladly recommend the perfect month for your elopement.

Pros

  • Colorful foliage and mystical fog makes for a great atmosphere

  • mild temperatures

  • Popular locations will not be too crowded yet and more venues might be available

Cons

  • Weather instability: Depending on the location of your preferred elopement there might already be snow in the mountains, evenings can get quite cool

  • in-between-season: Not all cable cars might be running anymore and hence not all locations can be accessed as easily as during summer and winter

WINTER

DECEMBER-FEBRUARY
One of the more popular seasons for an elopement in Switzerland. You love the snow and want to have the real alpine experience? Then a winter elopment might just be the right thing for you.

Pros

  • Snow! Depending on where your elopement will take place, we can guarantee a snowy experience.

  • Amazing experiences available like tobogganing, skiing, snowboarding, exploring ice caves or taking a helicopter to remote places in the alps to have an unforgettable elopement

  • Popular locations will not be too crowded yet and more venues might be available

Cons

  • Popular time to travel to the mountains for locals as well could mean less availability and/or higher prices for venues, depending on time and location. It’s advised to book early in advance, especially for an intimate wedding instead of an elopement with only the couple.

  • Temperature: Winters in Switzerland get cold. If you’re not used to it, you might have to account for the weather and bring special gear (clothes, shoes), or opt for a ceremony inside.

  • Weather instability: Winters in Switzerland can be gray, snowy or come with a stunning blue sky. If you’re flexible on your date by a few days this might be perfect as we can plan the elopement on the day with the best weather.
