Alexus & Tyler: Why it’s important to be flexible for your elopement

When planning an elopement in the mountains, it’s always good to have an alternative plan in mind. Although we strongly suggest still going through with your elopement if the forecast is rainy, sometimes the weather is just so bad that we have to look for an alternative. Your safety always comes first, and you don’t want to get caught in a thunderstorm in the mountains. It might not be what you had initially envisioned, but sometimes, those unexpected changes make for an even more magical day in the end.

Alexus and Tyler’s elopement in the Bernese Oberland is the perfect example.

This year in Switzerland, it didn’t just rain—it poured. We always keep checking forecasts leading up to your chosen date, which is exactly what we did for Alexus and Tyler’s elopement. They had chosen to exchange their vows in Switzerland during a trip to Europe, setting the date for a Monday in May. It was supposed to be perfect—the first Monday when the cable cars would be running again. But as the day approached, we realized that their original plan might not be ideal. Simone and Sandra visited the location just days before, only to find that many of the paths we had planned to hike were still covered in deep snow. So, a new plan had to be made. We sent Alexus and Tyler some alternative locations nearby, ensuring they could still exchange vows with stunning mountain views—just without the snow.

But, again: when it rains, it pours. Just two days before their planned date, the forecast looked dire. Not only was it supposed to rain all day, but temperatures were also expected to drop significantly. After some deliberation, we suggested another last-minute change—moving the elopement up by a day. At that moment, that meant moving it to the very next day: Sunday. Thankfully, Alexus and Tyler agreed. Despite both Sandra and Simone being at weddings that day, they moved heaven and earth to reorganize everything. Simone even managed to find a new stylist while driving back from a wedding in France, as the original one wasn’t available on such short notice. And as it turned out, that last-minute decision led to the most incredible day.

The Day Finally Arrived

In the morning, we arrived at Alexus and Tyler’s Airbnb in Grindelwald with coffee and Gipfeli—a Swiss take on the French croissant. The couple was surrounded by their closest family, making for an intimate and relaxed atmosphere, though there was a hint of nervous excitement in the air. Their new stylist Isabelle did an incredible job, and while Alexus got ready, the sun peeked through the clouds, revealing breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. It felt like a sign that things were falling into place exactly as they should.

Once both Alexus and Tyler were ready, we made our way to a picturesque flower meadow for their First Look—something Alexus had been dreaming of. The moment Tyler turned around to see her, his face lit up, and the nerves from earlier melted away. They took a deep breath, soaking in the moment, and you could just feel how happy they were to finally be here, in this place, together.

From there, we set off on the journey to their elopement spot. After an hour-long drive, we arrived at the cable car station, where excitement started to build. As we ascended, everyone enjoyed a few snacks and admired the views unfolding before them. The mountains stretched out in every direction, and the higher we went, the more we realized how lucky we were with the weather. Just a day later, and this wouldn’t have been possible as the whole mountain would’ve been shrouded in clouds due to the downpour.

Once we reached the top, a short 15-minute hike led us to the ceremony location—a secluded spot with panoramic views over Lake Thun. And just when we thought the day couldn’t get any more special, nature surprised us. As we walked, we spotted a group of rare alpine ibex—an incredibly rare sight during the day and even rarer this close to people. It was as if nature itself was giving Alexus and Tyler a little wedding gift.

As the ceremony began, dramatic clouds rolled in, creating a stunning backdrop that made everything feel even more cinematic. Tyler, in a classic move, managed to drop the rings, sending a ripple of laughter through the group (after a short moment of panic, as we were standing on a rather steep meadow). But the moment was perfect—raw, emotional, and real. Simone led a heartfelt ceremony, and as Alexus and Tyler exchanged their vows, it became clear: changing plans had been the best decision they could have made.

After the ceremony, we celebrated with a picnic full of tasty Swiss snacks, taking in the incredible scenery while everyone snapped selfies and soaked in the moment. Before heading back, Alexus and Tyler took some time for a quick photoshoot, capturing their first moments as a married couple against the breathtaking mountain views. As the sun dipped lower, we made our way back down on the last cable car of the day, still buzzing from the magic of it all.

To wrap up the day, we took the last cable car down the mountain and dropped everyone off in Interlaken, where they enjoyed a private dinner and surely cheered to their beautiful Swiss Elopement.

What started as a weather challenge turned into an unforgettable adventure. And in the end, it proved that sometimes, the best moments happen when you embrace the unexpected.
